Good bye 2014! Welcome 2015!!!

Hello everybody!

How are your holidays going?

Did you have time to rest? Are you bored? You can write something on the blog telling us how you are spending these days…What presents Father Christmas brought you and which presents will the Three Wise Men (6^th January) bring you.

Did you decorate your houses? I did.

This is what I’ve done so far (for the moment).I went to my parents’ house in the village to spend Christmas Eve (24^th December) and Christmas Day (25^th December). I went by train on 23^rd December. I set ‘The crib’ or ‘Manger’ (this is the Nativity Scene; typical Spanish decorations at Christmas). Here is a picture.

I would like to remember what we did in our last class of the year.

We acted out (performed) our ‘News Programme’. Unfortunately, we couldn’t record it. Don’t misplace (or lose) your pieces of news because we’re going to record the programme when we go back to class.

There was some interesting news.

We learnt about the tsunami that lashed (to beat violently against) the coast of Valencia; about the assassination (murder of an important person) of President Obama; about how Isabel Pantoja met Ortega Cano in jail (prison). We were recommended films to see and things to do by our leisure (free time) reporter; we learnt about the classification of football & basketball and finally, our weathergirl told us what weather we could expect at Christmas. Was she right or not?

Alex handed in his part of the story. This is the whole story. Marcos, only your part is missing! Find some time and surprise us with your end to our story for the first term!!!!

This is the beginning of your story. (Lucía started)

 Once upon a time in a village of England, in summer, seven kids lived an adventure ...Their names are: Sara, Alicia, Lucía, Alex, Guille and María.

Every afternoon they were together because they had a good time. One day, they went to the forest in the village. In the forest they found a chest. In the chest there was a magic book...

Then, María continued the story.

…in the chest, there was a magic book. Nobody knew what to do with the book. After a while they decided to take it to the village and tell the other inhabitants. Together, they decided to take the things to the museum of the old village.

When it started to feel dark, Lucía, Sara, Marcos, Alex, Alicia, Guille and María went home and had dinner all together. At night they started to hear strange noises outside the house and began to feel very nervous…

At night they started to hear strange noises outside the house, and began to feel very nervous. The noises said "um, um, um, grum, grom, grum", and suddenly the door opened. There wasn´t anyone in at the in the door!!!!!!, so they went out and started to run to the forest. In the forest a magical force caught Guille and Alice, and they started to shout at the other guys...

Alice and I walked in the forest to see our friends but we are alone in this strange place. We stayed in the forest all the day and in the night we prepared an improvised bed to sleep. But it wasn't important because a magical door appeared in front of us. We decided to go through it and 10 seconds after that, we appeared in Leganes, our town. But it's amazing... not amazing, VERY SCARY! It’s midnight and there isn’t anyone in the streets... only thousands and thousands of zombies. They shout and run to catch us. We are very scared and go to our English Academy and lock the door, but …

The only thing they had to do was saying the best quality of every one of them. When they did, the portal opened and everybody could go out. What are your ‘New Year Resolutions’?

These are the things that we promise to do in the New Year. For example: going to the gym, studying more, behaving better in English class…Can you write yours on the blog?

Happy New Year! Enjoy the rest of your holidays. Don’t choke with the grapes on New Year’s Eve (31^st December) and have a lot of presents from The Three Wise Men (on 5^th January; Twelfth Night). See you on 13^th January.

Tuesday 9^th December,

Hi guys! How are you?

Have you finished your exams yet? I hope so! There’s very little left for Christmas holidays. Just one week.

We didn’t see Marcos last class. I guess (I think) he was studying. I hope you got on well with your exams. All of you, in fact.

  In our next class we are going to record our News Programme, so please Don’t forget to bring your pieces of news with you! Or better, learn them so you don’t have to read from the piece of paper. Yes, I know TV presenters use a cue (a screen where they can read what they are saying) but we aren’t going to use it!

We will also have our Games’ awards! Who is the winner of this term…?

 But … I should start talking about our last class not about our next one!

We corrected homework.

Yes, I know I was very strict and players 3 and 4 were upset (a bit angry) with me because I didn’t give them more points for homework and they only have the preposition wrong. I know you always do homework and I know you work hard but this mistake is a very important one! You must hear this sentence a lot, but it’s true ‘You’ll thank me in the future for this!’ I’m sure you won’t forget that in English we say “Have you been TO…?”

So, Alex is going to continue the story and Marcos will finish it in class. We can’t spend all the holidays with the suspense of not knowing how it’s going to end!!!!

We revised the past simple in affirmative, negative and questions.

	PRESENT	PAST
Affirmative	The plane lands at 5	The plane landed at 5.
Negative	The plane doesn’t land at 6.	The plane didn’t land at 6.
Question form	Does the plane land at 6?	Did the plane land at 6?
Short answers	Yes, it does. No, it doesn’t.	Yes, it did. No, it didn’t.

  

We make the past simple of regular verbs by adding “- ed”. We only use the verb ended in “-ed” in affirmative sentences. In negative sentences and questions we use “didn’t” or “did”.So, the verb doesn’t change. It’s always in infinitive.

For homework you have to do the survey on the photocopy.

First, write the questions in the past. Secondly, answer the questions about you and finally, ask somebody- a friend, your father, your mother etc.- and write his / her answers. In class, you’ll tell us about that person’s best vacation (in American English), holiday (in British English).

Then we worked in pairs revising Present Perfect “Have /has + participle (-ed, 3^rd column of irregular verb list)”

 

We worked in pairs. We drew a suitcase and wrote the names of five countries. We asked “Have you ever been to …?” Our classmate answered and we either tickedü or crossed X the country. We swapped (changed) roles. After that, we reported to (told) the rest of the class.

And we finished the class with the song chosen by María.

Write six sentences about places you have / haven’t been to. Three with I, we, they (only one of them; not the three of them) and three with he or she. Two affirmative, two negative & two questions.
