Let's Go to the Movies!

Tuesday 27th January

Hello everybody!

I didn’t see any posts on the blog, so I guess we still don’t have the end of your story.
Last Tuesday we saw Alex again, at last! Long holidays you had! You can’t complain! After Christmas you went skiing to the snow resort.

We started the class with your presentations about movies.

'Movie' is the American word for 'film'. 'going to the movies' is the American expression that means 'going to the cinema'.

Alicia changed her mind (decided to do something different) and wrote about ‘Under the Same Star’. It’s OK. The most important thing was to do homework. The best review was Marcos’s. He made very few mistakes, he used paragraphs and vocabulary I taught you and posted on the blog. Lucía’s was also very good. There were some other good ones and others not so good. Neither Alex nor Gonzalo did homework. Why? I wonder…(ask myself)

I saw ‘Avatar’ and I agree with Marcos: Special effects are wonderful!(Great)
‘Divergent’ and ‘The Club of the Misunderstood’ seem to deal with the problems and doubts of teenagers (adolescents). I find the plot (story) of ‘Divergent’ quite interesting. I may see it. I don’t think I see ‘Under the Same Star’ because it sounds very sad. I’d prefer to see ‘Eight Basque Surnames’ it sounds really funny and amusing. ‘Step up’ also sounds entertaining.

After that, we acted out your ‘News Programme from last term. I’m very sorry but after so many cuts, it wasn’t recorded.

Alicia brought a song but she forgot to make the gaps for us to fill in, so we’ll listen to the song next Tuesday.

And finally, I explained to you what our second term project consists in. We are going to develop a project based on things we want to change from our neighbourhood, school, academy…the environment that surround us. We’re going to follow the stages designed by the NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) called ‘Design for Change’ we watched a video in Spanish but our project will be in English, of course. You can watch another video here.

Your homework this week consists in ‘thinking’. Get ideas; write down things you don’t like from the area where you live. Or things you like but you think they could be improved (made better). Also, think of what you’re going to do for ‘Flipped Class’ where you’ll be the teachers. The themes for our ‘Flipped Class’ are ‘Saint Valentine’s Day’ and ‘Carnival’ .We’ll swap with 9-10 year old students. Keep in mind their ages so as to choose suitable (appropriate) activities. Marcos also has to STILL finish the story, Alex & Gonzalo have to write the film review and Alicia has to bring the gapped –song again. (Although I have given you 2 points for the song)
Points are the marks from your compositions.
