Then, we described the pictures showing the winners of some sports. What have they won?
The swimmer has won a gold medal.
The football player has won a trophy.
The tennis player has won a prize.
The racing car driver has won a wreath.

We learnt some expressions of time:
·         They have been on court for 3 hours and 26 minutes.
·         With only 20 minutes to go, the United is losing the match.
·         Paula has been in the lead (in the first position) since the start of the marathon.
·         Time is running out (finishing) - there are only five minutes left for them to score.
·         The match started only 11 minutes ago and the Lakers already have 20 points on the board.

Use of the prepositions, for, since, ago with present perfect or past simple.
 ·          Since is only used with perfect tenses.
He’s played for Real Madrid since 2010.
 ·          Ago is only used with past simple.
He played  for  Manchester United 8 years ago.
 ·          For can be used with both tenses but the meaning of the sentences is different.
They played for 3 hours 26 minutes.        The match is over (finished)
They’ve  played for 3 hours 26 minutes. They’re still playing.(not finished)

We started a pair activity but we couldn’t finish it. We’ll finish it on Tuesday.

For homework, write about the sport written on your card. You must say where the sport is played, the people who take part in it, mention the equipment and say what the game consists of.

·            In some sports you hit the ball.
What do you hit the ball with? A bat, a stick, a club, your hand?
·            In other sports you kick the ball (you use your feet). Can you think of any examples?
·            In other sports you throw the ball, as in handball.
We’ll continue on Tuesday. Have a nice weekend!
