Your Horoscope for the Next Week Says you Will...

Hello boys and girls! How are you?

I bumped into (met by chance, met unexpectedly) Sara yesterday. I’m glad to see that she’s better. I’ll see you next Tuesday.

Alicia asked me to post the photo we did when we did the third stage of our project ‘Do.’ Lucía, I hope you got my email with the photos and videos recorded for the project. We’ll work together next Tuesday.

What did we do last Tuesday?

We continued talking about the future and making predictions.

So, in the year 2025, Gonzalo will be an actor and he’ll live in New York.

Lucía will have a boyfriend and she’ll live in Ibiza.

María will be a nursery teacher.

Most of you think that cars will fly. Somebody’s friend will invent some flying trainers! There won’t be boats or ships because cars will go under water, too!

I wonder how much these cars will cost because if they can fly and go under the water…there must be very expensive!

Would you like to know about my future? In the year 2025 I’ll have won a big prize on the lottery. I won’t live in Spain. I’ll travel around the world and I’ll have big mansions in every continent!

We learnt the different uses of ‘will’ referring to the future with the video posted on the last week blog.

Here’s a summary

Will/ won’t	decisions (instant / unplanned decisions)	“We are going to the cinema.” I’ll go with you.”
	predictions (based on opinions or wishes)	It’ll rain if you have a barbecue in the garden.
	promises	“I’ll phone you tomorrow.”
	offers	“I´ll help you with your homework.”
Shall	offers (only for I, We; only in questions)	Shall I help you with your case? It looks heavy!

 Of course, you already know how to make the future tense:

FUTURE SIMPLE  WILL

Affirmative	She will be a teacher	She’ll be a teacher
	Cars will fly	They’ll fly
Negative	Ships will not exist I will not get married	Ships won’t exist I won’t get married
Question	Will you live in Spain? How many children will she have?	Yes, I will / No, I won’t. She’ll have two children.

Then, we talked about our star sign or our horoscope. We made predictions about our classmates’ star signs and we learnt how to pronounce the horoscope. You can practise again watching the video.


For homework, do the exercise 1 on page 24. Do also the reading and writing on the back of that photocopy. Write the prediction of two different zodiac signs.

Don’t forget that we have ‘Flipped class’ next Tuesday. The class where you become the teachers and we swap (change) with other groups. The topic is ‘summer’. Prepare some materials or games. NO CROSSWORDS OR WORDSEARCHES! You can explain the students what ‘Midsummer’s night’ is and how it’s celebrated in the UK. You can teach them vocabulary related to summer and holidays. You can teach them how to write a postcard to a friend from their holiday resort etc.

And that was it!!!!

Michio Kaku's Visions for the Future...

Hi! How’s everybody?

I hope you’re fine.

What did we do in our last class?

We went on (continued) talking about the future.

Remember that we use “will/won’t” for predictions.

Michio Kaku’s visions for the future are about technology and devices.

She thinks that these devices (tools, machines) will be common in the future.

·           The internet watch. You’ll talk to it in any language and it’ll talk back.

·           The intelligent clasp. It’ll have the power of a cell phone (mobile phone) and a laptop (portable computer) but it’ll be small enough to wear on your clothes.

·           The intelligent earring. It’ll have access to a satellite orbiting overhead (over our heads, above) and locate our position.

·           The intelligent eyeglass. You’ll be able to (you can) see an important meeting even if you’re on the beach!

You can consult the previous blog to revise how to make sentences in the future using ‘will’ and other expressions.

Apart from making future predictions, we also use ‘will’ for decisions we take at the moment of speaking.

For example,

I’m thirsty. I’ll get a glass of water. (I wasn’t planning to take a glass of water but I need to drink something now. This is why I say ‘I’ll (I will)’ because I decided in the moment).

I’ll give you a call (I’ll phone you) when I have some news.

I’m going into town. I’ll give you a lift (I’ll take you in my car).

Let me help you with your bags. I’ll take the big one.

And also at a restaurant or at a shop:

This dress is perfect. I’ll take it. How much is it?

“What are you going to eat?” “I’ll have a salad and a steak, please.”

For homework, you have to make a presentation talking about your predictions for the year 2025. Write a composition. These are the topics and ideas you chose to talk about. So, please, follow them.

Don’t forget to use some of these expressions:
will definitely not, is unlikely to, will certainly / is certain to, will possibly, will probably.

I’m a bit disappointed because you continue not doing all the homework I give you!

You did the exercise on prepositions – more or less! You didn’t stu
dy the prepositions, though! As for the reading…only Guille did exercises a,b and c. Alicia did b & c.  Why didn’t anybody do exercise d?

We revised prepositions. AGAIN!

We started talking about the future.

To predict the future we use will/won’t + infinitive. We use this tense to express our opinions.

Affirmative	Contracted form	Negative	Question	Short answers

What things do people use to predict future events?

They use tarot cards and crystal balls. They read the lines on your palms and they also read tea leaves or coffee grounds…

What do you think about the future?

·         Do you think cars will fly?

·         Will people live on Mars or other planets?

·         Will robots rule the earth? And zombies?

Look at the expressions we use to talk about the future.

·         Zombies will definitely not rule the earth.

·         Robots are unlikely (very improbable) to rule the world.

·         Cars will certainly fly.

·         Cars are certain to fly.

·         Cars will possibly fly.

·         Cars will probably fly.

For homework, do the exercises on the photocopy I gave you. Write the meaning of the words you don’t understand (look them up in the dictionary).And write six DIFFERENT sentences using the expressions on the example above (will definitely not, are unlikely to etc.)
