Michio Kaku's Visions for the Future...

I hope you’re fine.

What did we do in our last class?

We went on (continued) talking about the future.

Remember that we use “will/won’t” for predictions.

Michio Kaku’s visions for the future are about technology and devices.

She thinks that these devices (tools, machines) will be common in the future.

·           The internet watch. You’ll talk to it in any language and it’ll talk back.

·           The intelligent clasp. It’ll have the power of a cell phone (mobile phone) and a laptop (portable computer) but it’ll be small enough to wear on your clothes.

·           The intelligent earring. It’ll have access to a satellite orbiting overhead (over our heads, above) and locate our position.

·           The intelligent eyeglass. You’ll be able to (you can) see an important meeting even if you’re on the beach!

You can consult the previous blog to revise how to make sentences in the future using ‘will’ and other expressions.

Apart from making future predictions, we also use ‘will’ for decisions we take at the moment of speaking.

For example,

I’m thirsty. I’ll get a glass of water. (I wasn’t planning to take a glass of water but I need to drink something now. This is why I say ‘I’ll (I will)’ because I decided in the moment).

I’ll give you a call (I’ll phone you) when I have some news.

I’m going into town. I’ll give you a lift (I’ll take you in my car).

Let me help you with your bags. I’ll take the big one.

And also at a restaurant or at a shop:

This dress is perfect. I’ll take it. How much is it?

“What are you going to eat?” “I’ll have a salad and a steak, please.”

For homework, you have to make a presentation talking about your predictions for the year 2025. Write a composition. These are the topics and ideas you chose to talk about. So, please, follow them.

Don’t forget to use some of these expressions:
will definitely not, is unlikely to, will certainly / is certain to, will possibly, will probably.

		PREDICTIONS IN 2025…
YOUR OWN IDEA (FRIENDS, GEOGRAPHY ETC.)

And that was all! No points this week because you didn’t behave in class. It was impossible to keep you quiet.

But you will probably behave better next Tuesday and I will certainly give you the points you deserve.
