Happy Easter!!!!

Tuesday 24th March

Hi everybody!
End of term! Easter holidays!!!

I imagine you’ll be enjoying your holidays. Great! Fantastic! Wonderful!
Although some of you started your holidays a week before. It was a surprise to see Guille in class! I thought you were going to Barcelona with Marcos, Gonzalo and Noelia! Anyway, it was good to see you.

We finished the term checking the tests we had done the
previous week.
Remember to revise the previous blogs because you have forgotten (have + forgotten- present perfect!) a lot of grammar and vocabulary we have studied! (have + studied – present perfect).
Then, we talked about shopping and we decided on the price of the items (things) we were going to sell in the market.
After the break we had our market. You were the shop keepers. And you had to watch your stall (your ‘shop’ in the market). I saw that the girls were very good tradespeople (sellers) because they decided to take their things and go around the academy showing their staff (things) and encourage people to buy (make people want to buy).

End of Term, End of Project, Not very Good Weather!

Tuesday 17th March

Hello everybody!
End of term! Holidays are coming!

What did we do last Thursday?
We started with a level test to check how we are getting on (improving).

We checked grammar: past simple, present perfect, comparative & superlative adjectives. And don’t forget passive sentences.

We checked vocabulary.
 Inventions.
Transport.
TV programmes.
Festivals and celebrations.
Dates and ordinal numbers.
We checked speaking.
We had interviews and we talked about: friends, films, festivals, entertainment and also inventions.

Then, we went to the park to perform the last stage of our project: Do. I’m afraid we didn’t choose the best day because it was cold, cloudy and windy. That’s why we didn’t find many people in the park. Before going I suggested you to do our outing (excursion) another day but you voted and the majority decided to go last Tuesday. And …it was your project, it was your decision! Off we went! (we went to the park)
We didn’t find many people but it was OK. A bit chilly, though! (chilly = cold).
Guille was our cameraman, let’s see what he recorded!
The boys aren’t coming to class next week because they’re going on a school trip to Barcelona. Enjoy your trip, boys! See you when you come back after Easter! Enjoy your holidays, too!
And for the rest of the class, that’s the girls, remember that next week we are having our ‘Flea Market’. Bring things to sell! And the awards for the games!

What About...Making People Smile?

Tuesday 10th March, 2015

Hello everybody!

Marcos and Gonzalo didn’t come yesterday because they are studying for their exams. Good luck!  And to María, also. She has exams, too. But she came the first hour to English.

We spent the whole class talking about the project and polishing the details.

Our Project: Making people smile! We don’t want unhappy people in the street!
You drew emoticons and made cards with pieces of cardboard. We have decided to go to the park across the bridge as we haven’t heard from the shopping mall yet and …time’s up! (time is finishing).
This is how we made the project. And this is what you wrote in your compositions. We can use the compositions like the script of the video.

First stage: Feel
You wrote on post- it cards things you don’t like about your surroundings.
Then you classified them into groups. After that you voted on one action to take. One of you wrote, “I don’t like seeing people are sad.’
‘What can we make about it?’…
… and you got to the second stage: Imagine.
You imagined how to do it. Ideas came up (appeared).
‘We can wear costumes and appear in front of them. This would make them smile.”
“We can give them cards with positive words written on them and put garlands (wreaths of flowers) around their necks.’
The third stage: Do. You split into (divided) groups. You made cards, emoticons and designed  a plan of action. Next week, we’ll put it into practice. We’ll record it and find out (discover) if it works! If we can make people smile!!!
So, get everything ready! Please!!!

And to end with, in the last week of class after the games and the break, we are having a ‘Flea market’. This is a market to sell things we don’t want or things we have made. So, please, bring something to sell (and some money to buy some stuff). You can make bracelets, cakes or bring toys or books… whatever!
We’ll give away (donate) the money we get to a charity

When do you Watch TV? What do you Watch on TV? Where do you Watch TV?

Tuesday 3rd February, 2015

Hello everybody!!!
What’s up?
I see you’re rather excited! (a little nervous). I wonder why! Is it because you have exams at school, because spring is coming or because you’re looking forward to (you really want) Easter holidays?

It seems to me (I think) we didn’t do much in class last Tuesday, what do you think?

The good thing is that you did your homework and told the rest of us your TV habits. I can see that most of you like ‘Castle’. I love it, too!!! It’s very funny. I like thrillers and detective series. I also like ‘Under Suspicion’ (The new Spanish series that’s on Channel 3). I also noticed that you watch a lot of TV!

We spent some more time talking about TV. We read an opinion letter to a TV magazine called ‘Remote Control’. The writer said she didn’t like the music programmes on TV. She thinks that they have the same old boring music.  She thinks that the girl and boy bands that appear on these programmes are awful (horrible). She prefers watching factual programmes or documentaries.
Another reader of this magazine replied to (answer) this letter. She said she didn’t agree. She thought that music programmes are very good. She likes watching them with her parents.
In this lesson we learnt how to express opinions:
·         I think ‘Castle’ is terrific! (Fantastic, great, very good)
·         In my opinion, music programmes on TV are awful. (Horrible)
·         I don’t agree with you. I think they’re really good.
…and preferences:
·         I like watching sports programmes. Me, too.
·         I love thrillers and documentaries.
·         I prefer watching science fiction series.
·         I don’t like rap music. I think it’s ridiculous.
We learnt to support our preferences with reasons.
·         I don’t like music programmes on TV because the music they play is very old.
·         I don’t like watching ‘The Walking Dead’ because it is scary.
·         Sit-coms (situation comedies) are really funny. I love watching ‘Two and a half men’.
·         I prefer watching television at home to going to the cinema because you can watch TV lying on the sofa.
As for our project, we’re still waiting for the reply from the shopping centre but don’t worry, we have another plan.
For next class we need:
A note from your parents giving you permission to go out of the academy for one hour on a class day.
For homework, describe the different stages of our project in writing because we are going to record it. Draw or download the emoticons, pictures, cheering words… whatever you can think of… and let’s put everything together and finish our project!!!
Some of you wrote very good compositions and that’s why you got more points for our games.
